Mercyhurst Tops Penn State Behrend 10-3
ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College women's water polo team defeated Penn State Behrend, 10-3, in a non-conference match-up at the Junker Center in Erie, Pa. With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-12 on the season.
Junior Nicole Nelson led the offense with two goals and three assists for five points. Freshman Trish Armstrong netted two goals and recorded three steals, and sophomore Laura Perez scored once and tallied two assists. Sophomore Tara Bouma and senior Jenna Jefferds each added a goal and an assist apiece.
Junior Molly Keleshian, sophomore Jessica Clemente and freshman Lisett Calderon each recorded a goal.
Mercyhurst took command of the game early on, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first before holding a 6-1 advantage at halftime. The Lakers then outscored the Lions, 4-2, in the second half, including 3-0 in the fourth quarter.
Senior Cathi Korenich recorded the win with nine saves.
Mercyhurst and Penn State Behrend meet again on Tuesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Aquatic Center in North East, Pa.
