Indiana's Katie Carson Named March 29 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Indiana University goalie Katie Carson (Sr., Modesto, Calif./Johansen) made 32 saves in 80 minutes of play to propel the No. 16-ranked Hoosiers at the Fluid Five  Tournament at home in Bloomington and earn the March 29 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award.

She collected three steals and dished out an assist to accompany her saves as the Hoosiers handled Gannon University (13-1 W) and Mercyhurst College (11-2 W) to move to 2-0 in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division competition, before knocking off Wagner College (8-3 W) and California State University-East Bay (17-10 W).

Carson grabbed five steals and wrestled away a steal in the first half of the 12-goal victory against Gannon, before going the distance of 32-minutes in the win over Mercyhurst.   Against the Lakers, she posted 12 saves, one assist and a steal as the Hoosiers tied No. 8-ranked the University of Michigan for first place in the division with one game to play.

In non-conference competition, she notched 15 saves and a steal in another 32 minutes of action as Indiana steamed past CSU-East Bay to improve to 17-7 on the season.  The 15-save performance moved Carson past Jackie Pyrz for third on the Indiana career saves list.

On the year, Carson has 122 saves and six steals to boast her career numbers to 612 saves and 36 steals.
