Gannon Lances Chatham & Villanova at PSU-Behrend Invitational
ERIE, Pa. -- The Gannon University women's water polo team won twice at the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday, March 20, as the Lady Knights beat Chatham University 15-2 and then defeated Villanova University 12-7.
In the win over Chatham, the Knights came out hot. They scored three goals in the first and six in the second quarter to take a 9-1 lead into the break. GU outscored Chatham 1-0 in the third and 4-1 in the final period.
Gannon featured a balanced attack in the victory. Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Sarah Anderson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Caitlin Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin) each scored twice. Nine different Knights scored one goal-Kelly Steininger (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills), Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin), Mallery Casale (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda), Kendra Plackemeier (Bonsall, Calif./Fallbrook), Jackie Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Rachel Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Laurel Martinez (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) and Stephanie Komorek (Erie, Pa./McDowell).
Janelle Bartman (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) made five saves and Libbie Guina (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) recorded three.
Against Villanova, the Knights got out to a 4-2 lead through one quarter. They led 9-3 at halftime and cruised in the second half. Greenhill scored four goals and Molly Andrews posted a hat trick. Harriger added two goals, and Casale and Plackemeier each scored once. Bartman had 10 saves in net.
