Bear-Able: UCLA Takes Over at No. 1 in March 18 Women's Collegiate Club Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Last week, the University of Notre Dame and the University of California-Los Angeles reigned at No. 1 in the Women's National Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll. Seven days later, only one team still holds the title as the top-ranked team in the country as UCLA garnered 100 points to rank as the unanimous No. 1 selection in the March 18 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll.
UCLA, which spent the weeks prior to tying with Notre Dame in the March 11 poll chipping away at the Fighting Irish's lead since Week 1 of the National Poll, is only the third team to rank No. 1 in the country this year. The Bruins join defending National Champion California Polytechnic State University (Preseason) and 2009 National Runner-up Notre Dame (Week 1-7) in the exclusive category.
Overall, the poll experienced a radical shift this week as only one of the teams in last week's Top 20 maintained its position this week.
Following UCLA at No. 1, Cal Poly jumps two places to take over at No. 2, while the University of California-Davis moved up three spots on the heels of a win over Notre Dame to hold down the No. 3 position. The University of Michigan and University of California slide back to No. 4 and 5, respectively, with the University of California-Santa Cruz and Notre Dame tying at No. 6. The University of Oregon, Grand Valley State University and University of Pennsylvania all bump back a slot to round out the Top 10 at No. 8-10, respectively.
In the next five, the University of Utah, Michigan State University, San Diego State University and University of Colorado all moved up a place to No. 11-14, with the University of Texas coming in at No. 15.
At No. 16-20, the University of California-San Diego, University of Arizona, Middlebury College, University of Central Florida and Boston College round out the Top 20. UCF was the lone team in the Top 20 to maintain its ranking from the March 11 balloting as the squad remains locked in at No. 19 for another week.
