Michigan's Kate Hayes Named March 15 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Kate Hayes (Fr., Spring, Texas/Capistrano Valley) of No. 8-nationally ranked the University of Michigan notched seven goals and three assists for the Wolverines in a 5-0 weekend to garner laurels as the March 15 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week.
The victories raised Michigan's record to 20-6 on the year and clinched the Wolverines' 10th straight 20-win season.
Squaring off against Gannon University (16-3 W) and Mercyhurst College (17-2 W) at home in Canham Natatorium on Friday, March 12 in the season-opening games of the 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division schedule, she tapped the Golden Knights and Lakers for pairs of goals.
A day later she aided the Wolverines in knocking off Iona College (14-7 W), Grove City College (18-5 W) and Siena College (16-3 W). Her best game came against Grove City as she contributed three goals and three assists for a career-high six points.
