Bucknell's Alison Carter Named March 15 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University goalie Alison Carter (Sr., Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) made 32 saves, grabbed eight steals and allowed 19 goals in 94 minutes of work to lead the Bison to a 2-1 record last week and earn notice as the March 15 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week.

The award marks her second Defensive Player of the Week nod this season as she previously garnered the honor on February 15.

She opened her award-winning performance by swatting down 13 shots with eight goals allowed and three steals in an 11-8 victory at George Wahshington University to begin the 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division slate of games on Thursday, March 11.

Following two days off, she led the Bison into contests versus California State University-San Bernardino and No. 11-nationally ranked University of California-Santa Barbara on Sunday, March 14.

Against CSU-San Bernardino, Carter notched six saves with three goals allowed as the Bison rolled to an 8-3 victory, before posting 13 saves with five steals and eight goals allowed in an 8-3 loss to UC-Santa Barbara.

Her performance against UC-Santa Barbara marked her eighth double-digit save game of the season as she now has 136 saves in 2010.  Carter, who entered the season with 460 saves, now has 596 stops over her four-year career to stand four saves shy of joining Mandy Bynum '07 (963) and Lindsay Chesterfield '03 (892) as the only Bison netminders to post 600 or more saves.
