No. 18 Princeton Falls to No. 3 California & California State-Bakersfield on Spring Break

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The 18th-ranked Princeton Univeristy women's water polo team fell in overtime to California State Unviersity Bakersfield, 11-10 OT, and to No. 3 the Unviersity of California, 13-4, on the opening day of the Tigers' Spring Break trip to California.

Versus CSU-Bakersfield, Princeton led by a goal after a quarter of play and maintained the one-goal margin at the half. Princeton outscored Bakersfield 3-1 in the third period and led 7-4 after 24 minutes of play, but the Roadrunners scored four goals in the final stanza to knot the game at 8-8 and force overtime.

In the first overtime period, CSUB outscored Princeton 2-1 and the teams each scored once in the second one to hand the Roadrunners the 11-10 win.

Carolina Ardila and Phoebe Champion each scored two goals in the loss, while six other players added single goals in the loss.

Princeton then dropped its second match of the day 13-4 at the hands of third-ranked Cal. Princeton trailed 3-0 after a quarter and Cal continued to extend its lead throughout the remainder of the game. All four Princeton goals came from freshmen with Brittany Zwirner scoring three times and Rachele Gyorffy adding a single goal.
