No. 8 Washington & Jefferson Manages Chatham 10-4 in CWPA Division III Play

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- No. 8-nationally ranked Washington & Jefferson College senior goalie Polly Ziegler (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) amassed 10 saves and added a fourth-quarter goal to help the Presidents earn an 11-4 home victory over Chatham University on Sunday, March 7 at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

The Presidents improved to 3-2 on the season behind a four-goal effort from junior Kate Van Schaik (Arnold, Pa./St. Mary's).  Ziegler did not allow a goal in the two quarters she spent in the cage.

Van Schaik netted a pair of goals in the first quarter as W&J opened a 2-0 lead.  The Presidents then exploded for seven goals in the second period for a 7-3 halftime advantage.  Senior Jessica Barby (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and junior Katie Wieber (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen) both scored twice in the quarter, while junior Caitlin Brown (Milford, Ohio/Milford) added the other W&J goal.

Washington & Jefferson put the game out of reach after Van Schaik fired in both third-period goals.

Barby finished with three goals and three assists, while Van Schaik added four assists to total seven points.  Wieber also handed out two helpers and Brown picked up two steals.

Selena Briener netted two of Chatham's four goals.
