No. 11 Hartwick Handles No. 20 Princeton 10-8 at Elite Eight Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- No. 11-ranked Hartwick College got past No. 20 Princeton University by a 10-8 score in both teams' first game of the 2010 Elite Eight Tournament hosted by Indiana University. Junior Jessica McKee (Tustin, Calif./Laguna Beach, CA) along with freshmen Hanneke Alfernink (Nijverdal, Netherlands/Univ. of Groningen), and Lily Martinez (Commerce, Calif./Montebello) combined for eight goals in the game and goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) stopped 12 Tiger shots.

The Hawks led 4-0 after the first quarter and never looked back en route to the victory. The Tigers cut the deficit to three goals (6-3) at the half but Hartwick outscored them 2-1 in the third for a four-goal edge (8-4) at end of three quarters. Princeton got the game close with four goals in the fourth quarter, but the Hawks came away with their 13th win.

Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls College) added one goal and two assists for the Hawks. Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, Utah/Lone Peak) and Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec/Sacred Heart) each tallied once.

With the victory, Hartwick improves to 10-4 all-time against Princeton and advances to play the Unviersity of Maryland in the tournament semifinals following a 13-10 victory by the Terrapins over Harvard University.
