Gannon University Goes 1-1 on Final Day of Chapman University Invite
CHAPMAN, Calif. --
The Gannon University women’s water polo team split two
matches at the Chapman University Tournament as the Lady Knights
lost 16-8 to California State University-East Bay and then bounced
back with an 8-6 win over hosting Chapman University.
GU went up 3-1 after one period against Chapman. Leading 4-2 at the
break, Gannon outscored the hosts 3-2 in the third. Chapman scored
two of the three goals in the final period, but it wasn’t
enough.
Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) recorded a
hat trick, Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin)
and Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda)
each scored twice, and Kelly Steininger (Vernon Hills,
Ill./Vernon Hills) added a goal. Janelle Bartman
(Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) made four saves.
In the loss to East Bay, GU fell
behind 5-1 after one quarter and 10-3 at halftime. East Bay added
six more scores in the second half to seal the victory.
Harriger scored three goals and Rachel Ryzmek (Erie,
Pa./McDowell) added two scores. Andrews, Greenhill, and
Mallery Casale (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy)
each scored a goal for the Knights. Bartman recorded five saves in
net.
Gannon heads to Pasadena, California, for a match against Cal Tech
Monday, March 1. The contest is set for a 10 p.m. start.
