Gannon University Drops Games to CSU-San Bernardino & Whittier at Chapman Invitational
CHAPMAN, Calif. -- The Gannon University women’s water polo team went 0-2 on Day 1 of the Chapman University Invitational falling to Whittier College and California State University-San Bernardino by one goal margins in 6-5 and 8-7 defeats, respectively.
Against Whittier, a late comeback
was not enough as the Poets took a one-goal decision. Whittier led
2-0 after one period and then scored all three second-quarter
goals. GU scored twice in the fourth period, but could not tie the
match.
Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) posted a hat
trick and Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea
Olinda) scored two goals. Janelle Bartman
(Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) recorded seven saves in
net.
In the loss to Cal State-San Bernardino, GU fell behind 3-0 after
one quarter. The Coyotes led 4-2 at halftime before the Knights
scored five second-half goals. It was not enough, as CSB added four
scores of its own to get the victory.
Harriger and Greenhill each scored three goals and Molly
Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin) added two scores. Bartman
posted 10 saves.
Gannon continues action at the Chapman Tournament Sunday, February
28. The Knights play Cal State-East Bay at 11 a.m. and then Chapman
at 2:45 p.m.
