No. 5 Michigan Outlasts No. 20 Princeton 13-10 at Princeton Invitational
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Leah Robertson (Sr., Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Lauren Orth (Jr., Poway, Calif./Poway) tallied four goals each to power No. 5-nationally ranked the University of Michigan to a 13-10 victory over the host and No. 20-ranked Tigers of Princeton University at the Princeton Invitational.
Meagan Cobb (So., Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) added a pair of goals, while Kiki Golden (Fr., Danville, Calif./Monte Vista), Casie Kelly (Sr., Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) and Ryley Plunkett (Jr., Modesto, Calif./Johansen) tacked on individual scores for the Wolverines.
Carolina Ardila (Sr., Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep), Lauren Brunner (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis), Phoebe Champion (Sr., Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Brittany Zwirner (Fr., Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) all scored two goals in the loss for the Tigers, while Saranna Soroka (Fr., Redondo Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) and Tanya Wilcox (Jr., Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) chipped in single goals. Princeton led 1-0 and 2-1 in the opening quarter on goals from Champion and Soroka, but Michigan evened the score at the end of the frame and built a 6-3 lead at the half.
Michigan extended its lead to as many as six goals in the fourth quarter before the Tigers closed the gap over the final five minutes, getting within two goals at 12-10 before Michigan got the final tally.
Grace du Pont (So., Tarrytown, N.Y./Philips Exeter Academy) made 10 saves for Princeton in taking the loss, her second-straight 10-save performance.
