BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Desiree Wilson of the University of California-Los Angeles women's club water polo team scored eight goals, including three crucial tallies in a 10-9 come-from-behind victory versus UC-San Diego, to earn the February 15 Women's National Collegiate Club Pacific Coast Division Player of the Week award.
Trailing 9-6 with time ticking away in the fourth period, Wilson led the rally for the Bruins as she buried her first goal of the game with 4:43 left on the clock to pull UCLA to within 9-7. She finished her second score at 3:36 to move the Bruins to within 9-8 before teammate Adele Young, who finished with five goals in the contest, hit the equalizer on a five-meter penalty shot with 3:02 left in the game. Less than a minute later, Wilson netted the game-winner at the 2:24 mark as UCLA held on for a 10-9 win.
Overall, she factored in all three games over the weekend for the Bruins as UCLA knocked off UC-San Diego, Loyola Marymount University (22-2 W) and the University of California-Irvine (21-3 W) to move to 4-0 on the year and maintain first place in the division.
