No. 20 Maryland Downs Wagner 11-4 at Bison Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The No. 20-nationally ranked Univeristy of Maryland water polo team utilized a balanced scoring attack to knock off Wagner College, 11-4, at the Bison Invitational on the campus of Bucknell University.

Shannon Simerly, Carly Hoshko and Elina Goldenberg contributed two goals apiece for the Terps (5-2), who went 2-1 during the two-day tournament.

"We did a much better job of converting our opportunities off our counter as well as spotting the free player on our 6-on-5 in power plays," Maryland head coach Carl Salyer said.

Playing the second half vs. Wagner (2-1), freshman goalie Rachel Stein put up a solid effort with four blocks and no goals allowed. She also had one steal.

"We did a real good job defensively," Salyer said after the Wagner game.

The Terps had their four-game winning streak snapped earlier in the day, losing to Marist College, 5-4, despite Simerly's three goals.

"We had our opportunities, we just weren't able to convert them in this game," Salyer said.

Maryland is off until playing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on February 27-28 at Princeton University. The Terps play Bucknell in opening-round action.
