Bucknell University Falls to No. 19 Indiana 13-7 at Bison Invitational
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell University women's water polo team had a chance to make it a perfect 4-0 opening weekend at the Bison Invitational, but the squad lost to No. 19 Indiana University 13-7 Sunday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. Lauren Wyckoff and Nicole Redder combined for seven goals for the Hoosiers, who finished the weekend 4-0 at the three-day event.
Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) led Bucknell (3-1) with two goals, while five others chipped in one apiece, but it was not enough as Indiana (7-4) jumped out to an 8-1 advantage midway through the second quarter. The Bison drew to within five on two occasions in the third period, but never seriously challenged the nationally ranked Hoosiers.
Bucknell was outshot in the game by a 38-24 margin as Indiana forced Alison Carter (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) to make 12 saves. She now has three double-figure save outings in the campaign's first four games.
Despite falling behind by a large margin, Bucknell did play even with Indiana in the second stanza as each team netted five goals.
Rozas and Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) each tallied three points for Bucknell, and that duo combined for five ejections drawn and five steals.
