Michigan's Morgan Turner Named February 8 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Michigan goalie Morgan Turner (So., Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) recorded two wins, 22 saves, three assists and six steals in seven periods to lead the Wolverines to a 2-2 weekend and earn the February 8 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Facing No. 7-nationally ranked San Jose State University at the Stanford Invitational on the campus of Stanford University, she blocked down 11 shots to key the No. 6-ranked Wolverines to a 12-6 win.
Following a 14-6 loss to No. 2-ranked the University of Southern California in which she did not appear, Turner came off the bench to take over between the pipes as the Wolverines trailed No. 3 the University of Hawaii 5-0 after a period of play.
She stymied the Rainbow Warriors for the next 24 minutes holding Hawaii to four goals, including one in the second period as Michigan trailed 6-2 at halftime, before the Wolverines expoloded for three markers in the third and four in the fourth periods to tie the game at 9-all and force overtime.

before senior Leah Robertson (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport
Harbor) found the back of the cage to give Michigan its
first-win over a No. 3-ranked team in the history of the
program.
