Navy's Rajchel & Baldwin Named to 2009 Men's ACWPC All-America Team
ANNAPOLIS, Md. --
United States Naval Academy water polo players Brett
Rajchel and Luke Baldwin were named 2009
Honorable Mention All-America selections by the Association of
Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) over the weekend. It marks
the fourth straight year that a pair of Navy players have been
named All-America and the 11th straight year that Navy has had at
least one player honored.
Rajchel, a senior goalkeeper from Winter Park, Fla., finished his
senior season with a .512 save percentage, while making 199 saves
and allowing 190 goals in 27 games. Rajchel's 199 saves were the
10th most in school history in a single season and he finished his
career with 458 saves against 433 goals allowed for a .514 save
percentage. The 458 career saves ranked as the fifth most by a Navy
goalkeeper. Rajchel had previously been named to the CWPA All-South
first team, as well as the CWPA All-East first team.
Baldwin, a junior attack from La Grange Park, Ill., was named
honorable mention All-America after being perhaps Navy's most
consistent player during the fall. Baldwin scored 51 points to rank
fourth on the team, while his 23 assists paced the squad and his 28
goals were fifth best. However, Baldwin provided outstanding
defense all season long and was Navy's most consistent performer on
both ends of the pool for most of the season. He will enter his
senior season with 91 career points (44 g, 47 a).
Navy went 22-9 during the 2009 season reaching the Eastern
Tournament title game and finishing the year ranked 15th in the
national poll. Head coach Mike Schofield, who owns a 553-career
record, will welcome back nine of the top 11 scorers from the fall
season.
