Mercyhurst Lands Three Players on 2009 ACWPC All-America Team

ERIE, Pa. -- Juniors Alex Moggridge, Andy Sekulski and Kane Ashton of the Mercyhurst College men’s water polo team have earned All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). It marks the third-straight year that three members of the Mercyhurst men's water polo team have garnered All-America recognition.

Moggridge, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, earned his second-straight All-America honor after leading the Lakers in scoring. He tallied 66 goals and added 39 assists for 105 points and added 56 steals through 18 games. Following the season he was named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association South Second Team.

Sekulski, a native of Mohnton, Pa., joins Moggridge as a repeat All-America honoree, earning it in each of the two previous seasons at the goaltender position. Through 19 games, Sekulski accumulated a 13-6 record with 292 saves and 50 steals. He also added two goals and 22 assists for 24 points.

Ashton, a native of Orlando, Fla., placed second on the team in scoring while ranking in the top-5 in numerous field categories. In 19 games, he scored 40 goals and marked 30 assists for 70 points to go along with 29 assists and 18 drawn ejections. He also added eight field blocks.

Mercyhurst finished its season with a 13-6 record, marking its fourth-straight winning season and fourth-consecutive 10-win season.
