Michigan's Kiki Golden Named January 25 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Michigan driver Kiki Golden (Fr., Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) started her collegiate career on a high note tallying five goals, two assists, 10 steals and three ejections-drawn in four games to lead the No. 10-nationally ranked Wolverines to a 3-1 record at the Michigan Kick-Off Tournament and earn the January 25 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week award.
A four-time high school All-America selection, she continued her success tallying a goal, an assist, a steal and two ejections drawn in her first collegiate game against the University of California-San Diego (11-8 W). Following a one assist performance against Colorado State University (14-6 W) for Michigan's 250th victory in program history, she posted a goal, five steals and a kickout drawn against No. 3-nationally ranked and defending National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) National Champion the Univeristy of California-Los Angeles (10-7 L).
She wrapped up the weekend with the biggest game of her young career notching three markers, including game-winning score, and four steals as the Wolverines handled No. 7 San Diego State University (9-4 W).
The victory improved Michigan's record to 5-14 all-time against No. 7-ranked teams and was the Wolverine's second straight over a No. 7-ranked San Diego State team following a victory in 2009 (9-8 W OT). Overall, the Wolverines are now 3-0 in their last three meetings against No. 7-ranked teams as Michigan knocked off then No. 7-ranked San Jose State University (8-6 W) on January 25, 2009 at the Michigan Kick-Off Tournament.
