Michigan's Leah Robertson Named January 25 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. --University of Michigan two-meter defender Leah Robertson (Sr., Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor scored four goals, handed out an assist and collected five steals, including the 300th of her career, to earn the January 25 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week award for leading the No. 10-ranked Wolverines to a 3-1 mark in the season-opening Michigan Kick-Off Tournament.

It marks the second consecutive year Robertson has earned the Western Division Player of the Week award for her performance during the season's opening weekend as she garnered the accolade last season.

A two-time All-America selection, six-time CWPA Western Division Player of the Week and three-time CWPA Western Division All-Conference selection, she raised her career totals to 118 goals, 104 assists, 222 points, 144 kick-outs drawn and 304 steals over the weekend.

Named a team captain for 2010, Robertson holds the program records for steals in a game (9), season (121) and career, while ranking second on the U-M career drawn kickout list, sixth on the assists list and eighth on the points lists. Further, she surpassed former teammate Mary Chatigny '09 (116) for seventh on the Wolverines' career goals list.

She opened the weekend with two goals, including the game-winner, an assist and two steals in a victory over the Univeristy of California-San Diego in helping the Wolverines record the 250th victory in program history.  She wrapped up the first day of competition by adding a steal in a win against Colorado State University (14-6 W).

Her best game of the weekend came against No. 3-nationally ranked and defending National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) National Champion the University of California-Los Angeles (10-7 L) as Robertson posted two goals, a steal and eight kick-outs drawn to tie the program record for most ejections drawn in a single game (8, Sharayah Hernandez '09, 4/29/07, 5-3 L vs. Indiana University).

In her team's weekend finale versus No. 7-nationally ranked San Diego State University (9-4 W), she contributed a steal as Michigan upended SDSU. 

The victory improved Michigan's record to 5-14 all-time against No. 7-ranked teams and was the Wolverine's second straight over a No. 7-ranked San Diego State team following a victory in 2009 (9-8 W OT). Overall, the Wolverines are now 3-0 in their last three meetings against No. 7-ranked teams as Michigan knocked off then No. 7-ranked San Jose State University (8-6 W) on January 25, 2009 at the Michigan Kick-Off Tournament.
