CWPA Releases 2010 Women's Collegiate Club Southwest Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) has released the schedule of games for the Women's National Collegiate Club Southwest Division. Competition will begin on February 6-7 at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado and run through the Southwest Division Championship on April 10-11 at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.
Following the season-opening, 10-game tournament at Air Force, the season will continue on February 13-14 with a eight-game tournament at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and on February 27-28 at the Edora Pool Ice Center in Fort Collins, Colorado for an 18-game event.
The Southwest Division Championship on April 10-11 at Arizona will be seeded based on the regular season standings among the nine-programs.
The victor of the division, as well as the host Wildcats of Arizona, will both receive automatic berths to the 2010 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson on April 23-25.
Per CWPA rules, Arizona automatically makes the 16-team field for the National Championship as the host institution and will assume the No. 16 spot in the field if the Wildcats fail to capture the Southwest Division title. If Arizona does win the division crown, the runner-up in the division will earn the No. 16 berth in the National Championship field as the Southwest Division is guaranteed to have two teams vying for the collegiate club sport's ulimate prize on the final weekend of the 2010 season.
Overall, Arizona has controlled the division the past several seasons taking the 2007-09 championships against three different opponents (2007 - Utah, 2008 - Colorado, 2009 - Air Force).
