Villanova University to Host 2008 Division III Club Championship on Nov. 1-2
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova University will serve as host of the 2008 Division III Collegiate Club Championship on November 1-2.
Featuring Lindenwood University, Monmouth College, the United States Coast Guard Academy, Carnegie Mellon University, Tufts University, Wesleyan University, New York University and Grinnell College, tickets are $15 for a weekend pass and $10 for a day pass.
History could be made at the championship as Missouri Valley champion and No. 1 seed Lindenwood will seek to become the first program in league history to capture three consecutive Division III Club titles. The streak began in 2006 as the Lions held off host Wesleyan University 8-6 in the title game. Last year, Lindenwood hosted and took the championship knocking off Grinnell College 12-4 in the title game to join Wesleyan University (2005 & 2006) as the only programs to win back-to-back crowns.
However, Heartland Division champion and No. 2 seed Monmouth, North Atlantic Division champion and No. 3 seed Coast Guard, No. 4 seed Carnegie Mellon of the Mid-Atlantic Division, No. 5 seed and North Atlantic runner-up Tufts, No. 6 seed Wesleyan of the New Englad Division, No. 7 seed NYU of the New York Division and No. 8 seed Grinnell will look to end the Lions' reign atop the Division III ranks.
In the history of the championship, only five teams have captured the Division III Club title as Rochester Institute of Technology (2000, 2002), Trinity College (2001), Middlebury College (2003), Wesleyan (2004, 2005) and Lindenwood (2006, 2007) could be joined by one of the six teams vying for their first championship this year.
The complete tournament bracket is available here, while directions to Villanova are available on the Wildcats' website, villanova.com, and the bracket.
