Brown University Clinches No. 1 Seed for Northern Championship
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Brown University clinched the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Northern Division Championship this past weekend as the Bears downed Fordham University (12-6 W), Iona College (13-12 W) and Queens College (14-11 W) on the road to move to 6-0 in CWPA Northern Division play.
With one game remaining in division play at their home facility of Wheaton College against Connecticut College (October 14), the Bears (9-5, 6-0 CWPA North) are guaranteed the top spot over potential contender Saint Francis College if the teams finish the regular season tied at 6-1 thanks to a 9-8 victory over the Terriers on September 27 at Connecticut College.
The victory over Saint Francis
marked the Terriers first Northern Division regular season loss,
excluding the end of season Northern Division Championship, since
October 19, 2002 when Harvard downed the Terriers 15-11 at
Connecticut College ending a 35 game division regular season win
streak by Saint Francis.
Further, it marked St. Francis' first Northern Division loss
(championship or regular season) in a league record 40 games dating
back to November 2, 2003 when Queens College collared the Terriers'
10-9 in sudden death overtime at Harvard University for the
Division Championship.
The division title snaps five-year stretch by Saint Francis (2003-07) as the Northern Division regular season champion dating back to when Queens College captured the regular season, division championship and Eastern Championship in 2002.
