Bucknell's Nick Donahue Named Oct. 20 Southern Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University goalie Nick Donahue (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville) made 47 saves with 27 goals allowed in 144 minutes of action to earn the October 20 Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Week award and lead the Bison to a 4-1 weekend at home against some of the league's best teams.

He started the busy weekend on a good note as he made a career-high 14 saves in Bucknell’s 11-6 win over No. 12 Princeton in front of a capacity crowd at Kinney Natatorium. It was the most saves for a Bison goalie since Trevor Mullins recorded 16 against Princeton in an overtime win over Princeton in 2005.

Donahue totaled three double-figure save performances in the five home games over the weekend as he had 11 stops against both Johns Hopkins University (10-3 W) and No. 17 Navy (11-6 L). Overall for the weekend, Donahue had a save percentage of .644 as he yielded just 26 goals in his 144 minutes of playing time.

In addition, he combined to stop 11 shots against George Washington University (9-4 W) and Mercyhurst College (9-8 W) as Donahue went over the 100-save mark for the season. He now has 136 this year, nearly triple his total from his first two seasons, to go along with a solid .531 save percentage.

The honor marks the second Player of the Week award for Donahue as he was recognized with the Bucknell University Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week award, becoming the first water polo player since Jason Rechel in September 2007 to garner the honor.
