USC, Redlands & Princeton Top October 1 Varsity, Division III & CWPA Polls

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern California and the University of Redlands remained No. 1 in the Varsity Top 20 and Division III Top 10 polls, while Princeton University ascended to first place in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Poll as the October 1 Men's Varsity Polls were released by the CWPA league office.
USC, which took over the top for the first time since November 28 of 2007 last week, recorded 100 points but was not a unanimous No. 1 selection. UCLA, which finished second for a second consecutive week, received one first place vote and 96 points, while Stanford University held onto third place with 90 points.
The biggest movement in the Top 10 this week belongs to Pepperdine University as the Waves used a 7-5 victory over now No. 5 the University of California-Berkeley to leap the Golden Bears and move up two places to No. 4 this week after ranking sixth in the September 24 poll.
Loyola Marymount University, Long Beach State University, the University of California-Irvine, the University of California-Santa Barbara and the University of California-San Diego round out the All-California Top 10.
Overall, the Top 12 positions in the poll belong to the Golden State as University of the Pacific and Santa Clara University rank 11th and 12, respectively.
Saint Francis College (N.Y.), the University of California-Davis, University of Redlands, Princeton University, the United States Naval Academy, California Baptist University, Brown University and the United States Air Force Academy round out the Top 20, with George Washington University, Bucknell University and Johns Hopkins University receiving votes.

The University of Redlands continued its domination of the
Division III ranks for another week as the Bulldogs held firm at
No. 1 in the October 1 Division III poll. Johns Hopkins
University and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges defended their positions at
second and third, respectively, as California Lutheran University
jumped to fourth with 82 points.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) slipped to fifth, while Chapman University, Occidental College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges remained at positions six through eight, respectively.
The University of California-Santa Cruz and Whittier College traded spots with the Banana Slugs inching up to ninth and the Poets slipping to 10th.

In the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll, the Tigers of Princeton University moved up two places to take over the No. 1 position as the CWPA rankings experienced a dramatic shift.
Saint Francis College (N.Y.) slipped to second with 93 points due
to a 9-8 loss to Brown University, while the Bears raced up the
rankings to third with 92 points. Brown's victory over Saint
Francis marked the Terriers first Northern Division regular season
loss, excluding the end of season Northern Division Championship,
since October 19, 2002 when Harvard downed the Terriers 15-11 at
Connecticut College ending a 35 game division regular season win
streak by Saint Francis.
Further, it marked St. Francis' first Northern Division loss
(championship or regular season) in a league record 40 games dating
back to November 2, 2003 when Queens College collared the Terriers'
10-9 in sudden death overtime at Harvard University for the
Division Championship.
The United States Naval Academy fell back to fourth and Bucknell University held firm at fifth to round out the Top Five, while George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, Iona College, Mercyhurst College and MIT finish out the Top 10.
