Michigan Inks Three During Early Signing Period
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan water polo head coach
Matt Anderson announced the signing of a three-player class on
November 18 to National Letters of Intent. Goalkeeper Alex
Adamson (Coronado, Calif./Coronado), two-meter set
Katie Cutler (Miami, Fla./Gulliver) and driver
Kiki Golden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) will
join the Wolverines for the 2010 campaign.
"I wanted to make this class a smaller one and attempt to go after
a couple of impact players that could come in and contribute right
away," Anderson said.
Adamson, a high school All-America selection, has been
participating in the U.S. national program since 2004. She has been
named All-CIF San Diego Section first team member three times and
was tabbed as the Coronado High School Female Athlete of the Year
three times. A strong scholar, she was recognized with a USA Water
Polo Outstanding Academic Achievement award.
"Alex is arguably the best goalie coming out of high school and we
are extremely fortunate that she chose to come to an outstanding
school like Michigan," Anderson said. "I am looking for her to come
in and make our goalie position extremely competitive and extremely
strong."
Cutler has hoisted a state championship trophy three times -- twice
with current U-M sophomores Alison Mantel (Miami,
Fla./Gulliver) and Cara Reitz (Miami,
Fla./Gulliver). As a junior, she picked up All-Miami-Dade
County first team honors while earning a team Offensive Player of
the Year laurel.
"I saw Katie Cutler at a camp a year ago and was really taken by
her potential and her ability already for someone who was
relatively new to the game," Anderson said. "We always need to add
depth at two meters and I think that once she gets into a
collegiate training program, her already plus-strength will become
even more of an asset."
Golden earned her third All-America honor in 2008, making the
NISCA/Speedo fifth team. She was twice named as Monte Vista's
offensive MVP and earned the same honor as a freshman at Cooper
City High School.
"In Kiki Golden we got a phenomenal player. She is one of the top
players coming out of high school and will only get better in
college," Anderson said. "She has the skill set to do a lot of
different things, especially offensively, and that's what I was
looking for."
Michigan will lose a seven-member senior class following the 2009
campaign. The current Wolverines open the 2009 season at home,
hosting the Michigan Kick-Off Tournament the final weekend in
January.
