Mulvey & Wertz Named MVP & Outstanding Rookie to Lead 2008 All-East Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Princeton University's Mike Merlone (So., Atherton, Calif./The Menlo School), Eric Vreeland (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake), Brendan Colgan (Sr., Annapolis, Md./The Key School) and Jeff Cole (So., Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) joined the United States Naval Academy's Mike Mulvey (Sr., Carlsbad, Calif./Calif.), Brown University's Mike Gartner (Sr., San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) and Bucknell University's Richie Hyden (So., Melbourne, Australia/Greenwich, Conn.) on the first team to lead 14 selections to the 2008 All-East Team at the 2008 Eastern Championship hosted by Navy on November 21-23.

Mulvey, who picked up his second straight first team nod, was named Tournament Most Valuable Player, while teammate Kyle Wertz (Fr., San Diego, Calif./Westview) garnered the Outstanding Rookie Award and Princeton head coach Luis Nicolao was honored with the Dick Russell Coach of the Tournament Award.

Gartner joined a select group as he collected his fourth All-Tournament honor after receiving first (2007, 2005) and second (2006) team honors in previous seasons.

Teammate Grant LeBeau (Sr., San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) leads the second team with Nikola Djuric (So., Belgrade, Serbia/IV Belogradska Gimnazija) and Nemanja Pucarevic (Sr., Belgrade, Serbia/Sports Gimnasyum) of Saint Francis College, Josh Kratz (Sr., Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) of Johns Hopkins University, Mike Smith-Bronstein (Sr., Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Patrick St. Cin (Sr., St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) of Iona College and Johnny Meiners (Jr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) of Navy.

The honor marks Pucarevic's second All-Tournament award as he received first team honors in 2007.

Selected by the participating head coaches at the Eastern Championship, the All-Eastern Team is the only award handed out by the Collegiate Water Polo Association that encompasses teams in both the Northern and Southern Divisions.
