Monmouth Takes Seventh Place Game 11-6 Over Carnegie Mellon at 2008 Division III Club Championship
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Monmouth College used scoring from seven players and six saves by goalie Frank Wasielewski (Fr., Chicago, Ill.) to capture seventh place in the final tournament standings with an 11-6 victory against Carnegie Mellon University at the 2008 Division III Club Championship at Villanova University.
The Crab People never trailed in the game taking a 7-0 lead in the first period behind a hat-trick by Joe Moran (Jr., Naperville, Ill.), a pair of goals by Jeff Skalon (Fr., Schamburg, Ill.) and single scores by Josh Dunn (Fr., Lyons, Ill.) and Ken Collins (Fr., Chicago, Ill.).
Carnegie Mellon came back to pull to within 8-4 by halftime, but Monmouth outscored the Tartans 3-2 in the second half to hang on for the five-goal victory and the Crab People's second straight seventh place finish. Last year, the team knocked off fellow Heartland Division team Knox College 12-7 to place seventh.
Moran led the way for Monmouth with three goals, while Skalon and Joe Testolin (Fr., Downers Grove, Ill.) added pairs of scores.
For CMU, Tony LoPresti (Jr., Austin, Texas) and Steve Luminai (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) registered two goals apiece as Nik White (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) and Myrka Lembo (Fr., Arcadia, Calif.) tacked on solo tallies to account for the Tartans' scoring.
In goal, Alex Schlichting (Sr., Arlington, Va.) made a game-high eight saves for Carnegie Mellon as the Tartans completed their second Division III Tournament after placing sixth in 2005.
