Navy Set to Host 2008 Eastern Championship on November 21-23
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The
CWPA Eastern Championship is set to be played in Annapolis on
November 21-23, with the winner earning the league’s
automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament on December 6-7 at
Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Eight teams will
converge on Annapolis, beginning with the quarterfinal round on
Friday in Lejeune Hall, starting at 11:00 am when Princeton battles
MIT.
Due to security restrictions in place, only vehicles with a
Department of Defense sticker on them will be allowed to drive onto
the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. All visitors are required to
either park downtown and walk-in through the Visitors Center and
its security checkpoint at gate one, or else park at Navy-Marine
Corps Memorial Stadium’s west-side parking lot ($5 per
vehicle) and ride the free shuttle bus to and from Lejeune Hall,
the site of the championship. On Friday, Nov. 21, the shuttle will
run from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. Saturday’s shuttle will run
from 1:30 to 9:00 pm. Sunday’s shuttle will run from 8:00 am
to 3:30 pm.
Tickets can be purchased at Lejeune Hall during the tournament. A
tournament pass, which is valid for all three days of action and 12
games, costs $25, while a one-day pass (four games) is $13.
Children under the age of 12 can attend the games for free. Naval
Academy faculty and staff and all senior citizens can purchase the
tournament pass for $13 and a one-day pass for $5. Current
Midshipmen can attend the games free of charge.
Action will get underway at 11:00 am on Friday as top-seeded
Princeton will take on eighth-seeded MIT. Navy’s first game
will be played at 3:30 pm on Friday against Iona.
The championship game will be on Sunday at 1:30 pm. Navy has won
the last two Eastern titles and will be looking for its ninth
Eastern title in school history.
