Andrew Peterson Scores Seven as No. 17 University of Illinois-Chicago Bedevils No. 15 Duke 10-6 at National Collegiate Club Championship

ATHENS, Ohio --  No. 17 University of Illinois-Chicago used seven goals by Andrew Peterson (Jr., Mundelein, Ill.) to dispatch No. 15 Duke University 10-6 in the opening round of the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by Ohio University.

Down 1-0 following a score by the Blue Devils' Ben Rothstein (Sr., Mundelein, Ill.) at the 3:41 mark of the first period, the Flames went to work as Peterson ripped in an exclusion goal at 3:09 and uncorked a rising shot which found the back of the cage at 2:25 to put UIC in front 2-1.

The margin expanded to 3-1 in the closing minutes of the second period as Peterson notched his second advantage goal of the game and completed a hat-trick with 1:30 left in the first half as the Flames carried a 3-1 lead into the second half.

Trailing 4-1 one minute into the second half following Peterson's fourth goal of the game, Duke attempted to rally back as Ryan Goldhahn (Gr., Lodi, Calif.) scored off an exclusion to make it 4-2, but Peterson was too much for the Blue Devils registering his fifth goal at the 3:23 mark and setting up Ante Vujic (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) for a score at 1:39 to go in front 6-2.

Charlie Neiman (Jr., Bellevue, Wash.) made the game interesting going into the fourth period as he connected on shots at the 1:11 and 32 seconds marks of the third period to pull the Blue Devils back to within a pair of goals at 6-4.

However, the Flames turned on the burners down the stretch as Michael Walsh (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) netted a pair of natural goals and Peterson buried a penalty shot and a natural goal as UIC outscored Duke 4-2 in the fourth period to hang on for the 10-6 victory.

In cage, Derreck Brace (Sr., La Grange, Ill.) picked up the win for the Flames making four saves, while Duke's Ted Belsches (Sr., Dothan, Ala.) swatted away five shots.

UIC will next be in action at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 15 versus the winner of a first round game between No. 4 nationally ranked the Univertsity of Florida and Georgia Institute of Technology.  Duke next faces the loser of the Florida-Georgia Tech game at 7:30 p.m. on November 14.
