Washington & Jefferson, Grove City Compete at 2009 National Collegiate III Championship

2009 National Collegiate III Women's Water Polo Championship

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Washington & Jefferson College went 1-4 to place sixth at the 2009 National Collegiate III Women's Water Polo Championship hosted at California Lutheran University's Samuelson Aquatics Center on May 1-3, 2009. Grove City College finished eighth in the eight team field as Pomona-Pitzer Colleges claimed the tournament championship.

The Presidents fell to California State Univeristy-East Bay 12-5 and 16-6, while defeating Grove City College (8-7 W) and being defeated by University of Redlands (14-4 L) and Pomona-Pitzer (15-12 L).

The Wolverines of Grove City fell to University of California-Santa Cruz (9-4 L), Washington & Jeferson (8-7 L) and Occidental (11-5 L) before splitting a pair of games against Macalester College (7-4 W, 10-4 L).

For their performances, W&J's Alicia Sutton (Sr., Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Grove City's Liza McRuer (Sr., Irvine, Calif./University) were recognized with second and honorable mention All-Tournament honors, respectively.
