National Champion Cal Poly Finishes No. 1 in May 6 Women's Club Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- California Polytechnic State University earned 100 points to finish the season as No. 1 in the May 6 and final Women's National Collegiate Club Poll of the 2009 season. The 2008 and 2009 National Champions, Cal Poly is followed by University of Notre Dame, University of Oregon, University of California-Davis, University of Pennsylvania, University of Arizona, University of Michigan, University of California-Los Angeles, Univeristy of Utah and Michigan State Univeristy in the Top 10.
University of Texas, Grand Valley State University, University of California-San Diego, University of Central Florida, University of Illinois, California State University-Chico, Dartmouth College, Boston College, University of Florida and New York University round out the Top 20, while Miami University (Ohio) and Carleton College received votes.
Overall, only three of the teams in the Top 20 held their rankings from the April 29 poll as Cal Poly, Notre Dame and UC-San Diego remained No. 1, 2 and 13, respectively, while 19 of the 20 teams remained in the Top 20 from last week's balloting with Florida moving up and Miami dropping out of the Top 20.
This marks the second consecutive season and fourth time in the last seven years the Mustangs have finished the season at No. 1 after Cal Poly captured 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008 national titles. Further, a California team has topped the final poll in five of the last seven seasons as Fresno State University took the 2007 championship.
