Princeton University Announces Class of 2013 Women's Recruits
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton water
polo coach Luis Nicolao has announced the three
student-athletes that will join the women’s water polo team
next spring as the Class of 2013. The group is comprised of three
Californians – Rachele Gyorffy,
Saranna Soroka and Brittany
Zwirner.
“We are very excited about our incoming class,” says
Nicolao. “I know that all three will have an impact on our
program from the day they get on campus in the fall.”
Rachele Gyorffy, Utility, Sacramento, Calif., Rio
Americano
Gyorffy is a Sacramento native and attended Rio Americano High
School. She began playing water polo in the seventh grade. In high
school, she won four varsity letters and four section titles. She
was voted the section’s most valuable player and first-team
All-Metro as a senior. Gyorffy was also a high school all-american
as a junior and senior. In addition to playing water polo at Rio
Americano, she also earned four varsity letters in swimming and won
sections as a junior. She was also part of the Youth National team
as a high school freshman and sophomore. Gyorffy’s older
sister Janelle attended Pomona College and played water polo there.
She also has a younger sister Victoria in high school that also
plays water polo.
Saranna Soroka, Center, Redondo Beach, Calif.,
Chadwick
Soroka was a four-year starter at Chadwick, where she holds the
school record for goals in a season with 142. As a senior, she
served as the team’s captain and was a first-team All-CIF
selection, the Prep League Most Valuable Player, and a Daily Breeze
All-Area pick. As a junior, she scored 105 goals and was a
first-team all-league selection, a second-team all-CIF, and a Daily
Breeze All-Area pick. She was also a 2008 USA Water Polo Academic
All-American. Additionally, Soroka plays for the Los Angeles Water
Polo Club and earned a silver medal at the 2008 Junior
Olympics.
Brittany Zwirner, Utility, Santa Ana, Calif., Foothill
Zwirner was a four-year letterwinner in both water polo and
swimming at Foothill High School. Originally a native of the
Philippines, Zwirner was the Sea View League Player of the Year
this season. She also took home first-team All-CIF, Orange County
All-League honors and was her team’s Knight of the Year as a
senior. As a junior, Zwirner was her team’s defensive Most
Valuable Player and was a first-team All-Sea View and second-team
All-CIF choice. A season earlier as a sophomore, Zwirner won the
team’s Key Player Award and was second-team all-league.
