Bucknell's Aubrey Rowe Named to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II Team
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the selection of Bucknell University senior Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley), a member of the Bison women’s water polo team, to the 2009 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II University Division At-Large Second Team.
One of 23 recipents of the honor,
the award adds to a season of accomplishments for Rowe who earned
the Lee S. “Bud” Ranck Award, presented to senior
athletes “for outstanding spirit and contributions to the
Bucknell athletic program," in late April.
Rowe claimed a number of career and single-season records in her
four years in the Orange & Blue despite battling injuries.
After setting the single-season mark for steals with 84 last year,
the driver came back in her senior campaign to take the season
marks in points (128) and goals (75). She finished her career with
358 points and 251 steals, both of which rank first in the Bucknell
record book.
Rowe recently earned her second consecutive selection to the
Second Team All-CWPA Southern Division, capping off a career in
which she was named First Team All-Conference and CWPA Rookie of
the Year in 2006. In addition, she earned All-Eastern
Championship second team honors this season to be recognized as one
of the top players at the league's championship event.
Out of the pool, Rowe was a three-time Collegiate Water Polo
Association (CWPA) and Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches
(ACWPC) All-Academic Team honoree, with her fourth and final awards
pending, while double majoring in English/creative writing and
Spanish.
Rowe is the second women's water polo player to earn Academic All-District honors, joining Brooke Rea, who did so in 2001 and 2002.
The 2009 Academic All-District II
at-large teams were selected by members of the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The at-large teams
consist of all sports except football, soccer, volleyball,
basketball, baseball, softball, track & field or cross
country.
The District II University Division consists of all NCAA Division
I colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia,
Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. To be
nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete
must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 cumulative grade-point
average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
