Virginia Tech Hokies on Steady Rise to Top of Mid-Atlantic Division

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Virginia Tech University continues its steady climb up the Mid-Atlantic Division standings this year as the Hokies stand at 2-2, a dramatic change from the program's progess over the last two seasons.

Beginning during the program's first season in the CWPA in 2007, the Hokies have progressively improved their play and competitiveness in the Mid-Atlantic Division.

In 2007, Virginia Tech placed eighth in the division with a 2-6 record before improving to seventh last year with another 2-6 mark.

This year, Va. Tech is 2-2 with wins over the University of Richmond (11-7 W) and James Madison Univeristy (6-5 W) and losses to Duke University (6-3 L) and division front-runner the University of Virginia (17-3 L).

A good assessment of the team's progress over the last three years is the Hokies progress against James Madison, falling to the Dukes 10-1 in 2007 and 11-8 in 2008 before downing JMU for the first tim in program history this year.

Currently fifth in the division standings, the Hokies will attempt to clinch at Top Five seed for the Mid-Atlantic Division Championship set for April 4-5 at Pennsylvania State University when Virginia Tech hosts the other division teams in a division cross-over event on March 20-22 in Blacksburg, Virginia.
