It's a Tie: Oregon & UCLA Tie For No. 1 in March 4 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- For the first time in the recorded history of the women's national collegiate club poll, two teams hold the No. 1 ranking in the nation as the University of Oregon and University of California-Los Angeles are tied for the top spot in the March 4 poll.

It is believed to mark the first time that both UCLA, which was tied for No. 1 last week and Oregon, which had been No. 2 in the polls since the final 2008 balloting, have been ranked No. 1.

Former No. 1 Cal Poly State University, which held the No. 1 ranking since the final 2008 poll, dropped to No. 4 this week as the Mustangs saw their string of eight consecutive weeks as the No. 1 team in the nation come to an end.

Cal Poly's ranking marks the team's lowest position in the national poll since March 14, 2008 when the Mustangs dropped to No. 4 before taking the National Collegiate Club Championship last year.

The University of California-Davis, which defeated Cal Poly and fell to UCLA last week, held on at No. 3 in the poll with 92 points, while the University of Notre Dame stayed at No. 5.

University of Florida, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Illinois and Grand Valley State University round out the Top 10.

Overall, seven of the 20 teams in last week's Top 20 held their positions this week as No. 8 Michigan State University, No. 14 University of California-San Diego, No. 15 Boston College, No. 16 University of Arizona and No. 17 California State University-Chico joined UC-Davis and Notre Dame.

Two teams moved into the Top 20 this week as Dartmouth College went from unranked to No. 18, while New York University jumped up from receiving votes to tie Texas A&M University at No. 20.
