Michigan's Morgan Turner Named March 2 Western Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Michigan goalie Morgan Turner (Fr., Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills) made 22 blocks with nine goals allowed in 60 minutes of work to earn the March 2 Western Division Rookie of the Week award as the No. 14-nationally ranked Wolverines knocked off No. 20 University of Maryland (9-8 W) and host Bucknell University (12-5 W) at the Elite Six Tournament.
She blocked away five shots with a goal allowed in 28 minutes against Bucknell to wrap-up the weekend, but had her best performance against Maryland in the second game of the tournament.
Versus the nationally-ranked Terrapins, she made 17 stops with eight goals allowed in 32 minutes of work to become only the second Wolverines' netminder to notch 15 or more saves in the games.
She joins 2008 CWPA Hall of Fame inductee, former Wolverine (2002-05) and current U.S. National Team goalie Betsey Armstrong as the only Michigan players to break the 15-save mark in the history of the program.
Overall, it marked the sixth 17+ save game for the Wolverines as Armstrong saved 17 twice, 18 once, 21 once and a program record 24 against Indiana University on March 6, 2004.
The honor marks Turner's second Rookie of the Week honor as she previously garnered the award on February 16.
