Who's No. 1: Cal Poly Falls to UC-Davis, UC-Davis Falls to UCLA By 6-5 OT SD Scores
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Change may be coming in the National Collegiate Club poll as No. 3 University of California-Davis handed No. 1 Cal Poly State University its first loss of the season, 6-5 in sudden victory overtime on February 28 at Foothill Community College. However, the poll is still unclear as fellow No. 3 UCLA knocked off UC-Davis 6-5 in sudden victory overtime at the same non-conference tournament.
So who should be No. 1 in this week's poll?
The question is complicated as UCLA lost to Cal Poly head-to-head by an 11-10 final on January 31 in Pacific Coast Division play, evening the season series at 1-1.
Can a team which is No. 2 in the division standings rank No. 1 in the nation? Should Cal Poly remain No. 1 although it lost to a team ranked lower than the Mustangs? Should UC-Davis move up to No. 1 over UCLA, which defeated the Aggies? Should No. 2 ranked the University of Oregon move up to No. 1 with Cal Poly, UCLA and UC-Davis trailing in second through fourth?
What about No. 5 University of Notre Dame or No. 6 University of Michigan? Can the Fighting Irish or Wolverines leap from mid-Top 10 to the No. 1 position in the March 4 poll?
The answer will be revealed this week when the latest National Collegiate Club poll is released.
