UCLA Ascends to No. 1 in March 18 Collegiate Club Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Another week, another new No. 1 team in the Collegiate Club ranks as the University of California-Los Angeles moved to No. 1 in the March 18 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll.

UCLA moved up to No. 1 this week after ranking No. 2 last week due to former No. 1 the University of Oregon falling to the University of Notre Dame 7-5. The ranking marks the second time this season UCLA has held the No. 1 ranking as the Bruins shared the top spot with Oregon in the March 4 poll.

2008 National Collegiate Club champion Cal Poly, which held the No. 1 ranking from the end of the 2008 season through the February 25, 2009 poll, moved up to second this week after ranking fourth in the March 4 poll. 

Cal Poly, which defeated Michigan State University (4-1 W), University of California-Berkeley (7-1 W), University of California-Davis (5-1 W) and Notre Dame (5-3 W) last week, is followed by the Fighting Irish, University of Florida and UC-Davis in the Top Five.

Oregon, which ranked No. 1 in the country the last two weeks, slips to No. 6 this week, while University of Michigan and Michigan State University held onto their spots at No. 7 and 8, respectively, for another week.

Grand Valley State University and University of Utah moved up to No. 9 and 10, respectively, while University of Illinois slipped back to No. 11.

Miami University (Ohio) remained at No. 12, University of Arizona moved up two places to No. 13, University of Pennsylvania and University of California-San Diego both dropped one spot to No. 14 and 15, while the University of Texas was the biggest mover of the week rising into the Top 20 at No. 16.

Boston College fell to No. 17, Dartmouth College held on at No. 18, California State University-Chico dove to No. 19 and New York University jumped into the Top 20 at No. 20 to round out the poll.
