Bucknell's Amanda Skonezney Named March 16 Southern Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University's Amanda Skonezney (Fr., Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) registered six goals with two assists and four steals while winning 10-of-21 sprints to earn the March 16 Southern Division Rookie of the Week award.
The honor marks the third time this season Skonezney has earned the Rookie of the Week award as she previously garnered recognition on January 26 and March 9.
Facing six nationally ranked teams, the Bison finished 4-2 on the week defeating Division III ranked No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (13-9 W), No. 2 Occidental College (14-7 W), No. 4 California Lutheran University (9-7 W) and No. 9 Chapman University (14-9 L), while falling to Division I ranked No. 11 California State University-Northridge (9-6 L) and No. 13 University of California-Santa Barbara (11-7 L).
Her best game of the week came versus Occidental as she scored two goals with a pair of steals and two wins on three sprint attempts. She added an assist, an ejection drawn and two sprint wins in four tries against Pomona Pitzer, chipped in a goal with a steal versus Chapman and tallied a goal with an assist and a perfect four-of-four mark in sprints against California Lutheran.
In addition, she added two goals with a steal and a sprint victory in four attempts against Cal State Northridge, and registered a sprint victory against UCSB.
Overall, her 10 sprint wins last week raised her season total to 56 and moved her into second place on Bucknell's single-season sprints victory list.
On the year, she ranks among the team leaders in goals (23, fifth), points (36, fifth) and steals (33, fourth).
