Brown University Announces Class of 2013 Women's Water Polo Recruits
PROVIDENCE, RI -
Brown University recently announced the addition of five newcomers
that will join the women's water polo team next spring as the class
of 2013. The class comprises of Katharine Booher
(Palo Alto, Calif.), Meghan Earley (New Haven,
Conn.), Avery Mosser (Mill Valley,
Calif.), Claudia Ruiz (Sacramento,
Calif.) and Brittany Westerman (Los Altos,
Calif.).
"While replacing the leadership of captain Rory
Stanton will be hard, I feel that all five incoming
freshmen will make us more talented and hopefully help us get
closer to an Eastern Championship," said head coach Felix
Mercado.
Booher, a six-foot center defender from Castilleja School and the
Stanford Water Polo Club, was named First Team All-League and First
Team All-CCS in 2007-2008. Booher was also named the San
Jose Mercury News Santa Clara County Player of the Year her
senior season.
A utility player from Hopkins School in Connecticut, Earley will
be joining the Bears after competing for the Brown women's swimming
& diving team. She has five years of water polo
experience and led Hopkins in goals with 49 while chipping in with
nine assists.
Mosser is a 5-foot-11 utility player from Tamalpais High School
and Marin Water Polo Club. Mosser was NCH Honorable Mention
and was named Second Team All-MCAL in 2008. She was also
second on her team in steals, and contributed 56 goals in the 2008
season.
An attacker hailing from Rio Americano High School, Ruiz also
played for American River Water Polo Club. Ruiz was a
Sac-Joaquin All-Section selection in 2008 and Capital Athletic
League All-League from 2007-2008. She was also a four-year
Rio Americano Scholar Athlete.
Westerman joins Brown as an attacker, and comes from Deerfield
Academy via Menlo School in Palo Alto, where she also played club
ball with Stanford. Westerman earned MVP honors at Deerfield
and was a First Team All-New England selection in 2009.
Before attending Deerfield Academy, Westerman was All-CCS in
2007-2007 and All-PAL in 2005 at Menlo. She was also part of
three CCS Championship teams while at Menlo.
