George Washington's David Zenk Receives Postgraduate Scholarship from A-10
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
-- The Atlantic 10 Conference announced today that George
Washington University `09 graduate David Zenk (St. Louis,
Mo./St. Louis Country Day) is one of four recipients of
postgraduate scholarships awarded annually by the A-10. The A-10
rewards four student-athletes who excel in academics and
athletics.
In his four-year athletic career, Zenk set Conference meet records
in the 200-yard backstroke (1:45.67), 200-yard individual medley
(1:48.35) and 400-yard individual medley at the 2009 A-10 Swimming
& Diving Championship. For an unprecedented third time, Zenk
was named Most Outstanding Performer of the 2009 Championship.
He was also named 2009 Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year in
men's swimming, as well as a three-time Academic All-Conference and
nine-time Performer of the Week selection.
Zenk leaves the Colonials program as the school record-holder in
five events including the three aforementioned events plus the
100-yard freestyle (45.18) and 200-yard freestyle (1:38.71). He
also is listed in the top 10 times in three other events.
While balancing swimming and his studies, Zenk also played for the
GW water polo team. In four seasons, he amassed a school records in
assists, steals, swim-offs and field blocks. He also ranks fourth
all-time with 320 points and 11th with 162 career goals.
Zenk maintained a 3.41 grade point average while majoring in
biology and will begin classes at Kirksville (Mo.) College of
Osteopathic Medicine in the fall.
Also receiving 2009 postgraduate scholarships from the A-10 were
Lamarra Currie of Charlotte, Christa Dominick of La Salle and
Katelyn Murray of St. Bonaventure.
