Indiana's Kelsey Campbell & Lauren Wyckoff Named 2009 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars
PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference office announced the selection of Indiana University's Lauren Wyckoff (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and Kelsey Campbell (Maple Ridge, B.C./Maple Ridge Secondary) as recipients of the inaugural Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award.
Among 498 recognized athletes from every Big Ten institution, including 40 from Indiana, the duo are among three water polo athletes recognized joining recent University of Michigan graduate Carrie Stover (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer).
The honor is based upon the grade-point average (GPA) from the previous academic year only, compared to the Academic All-Big Ten honorees who are selected based on cumulative GPA. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and have earned a minimum GPA of 3.7 or higher for the previous fall and winter semesters. Graduate students are also eligible, as long as he/she did not graduate before completing the two 2008-09 semesters.
A 2009 All-Western Division first team selection, Campbell earned All-Eastern Championship second team honors this year in helping the Hoosiers to a fifth place finish at the league championship. For her career, she now has 69 goals and 56 assists for 125 points with 60 steals in 73 games.
Wyckoff chipped in 42 goals, 18 assists and 22 steals this year to up her career totals to 70 goals and 51 assists for 121 points in 59 games.
