January 28 Women's Varsity Polls Released; USC, Pomona-Pitzer & Michigan Remain No. 1

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern California beat out Stanford University by a point to hold onto the No. 1 ranking in the January 28 Women's Varsity Top 20 Poll. Pomona-Pitzer and the University of Michigan also maintained their spots among the nation's best ranking first in the Division III and Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 polls, respectively

In the Varsity Top 20 poll, the USC Trojans earned 98 points to edge out the Stanford Cardinal by a point. Overall, the top six positions in the poll remain unchanged as the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Hawaii, the University of California and San Diego State University held firm in their positions from the Preseason and January 21 polls. Arizona State University moved up one place to seventh replacing San Jose State University, while the University of Michigan, which knocked off SJSU over the weekend, moved into the Top 10 at No. 8. The University of California-Davis and San Jose State round out the Top 10 ranking ninth and 10th, respectively.

In the Division III poll, the top ten teams in the nation remained constant but the order shifted in the mid-ranks. Pomona-Pitzer College remains a unanimous No. 1 selection, while California Lutheran University and California State University-East Bay held firm at No. 2-3.

The only change in this week's poll occurred at No. 4 and 6 as the University of Redlands jumped to fourth and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges slipped to sixth.

The University of Michigan, the defending CWPA Eastern Champion, stayed a top the league standings as the Wolverines garnered 99 points. Overall, the only change was a tie as Indiana University moved into a tie with the University of Maryland for fourth in the poll.
