CWPA Releases 2009 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association has released the order of games and seeding for the 2009 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship tournament on May 1-3 at the University of California-Davis. Games will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1 and continue through the final game beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.

The tournament is not seeded by ability, since there is no equitable means to determine the respective strength of the teams as too few teams play outside of their division schedules in order to create an accurate seeding.  Match-ups are therefore based upon the previous season's National Collegiate Club Championship results by division.  The Host region receives two automatic bids, one of which is assumed by the division champion and the other by the host site or division runner-up (the 16th position).  This guarantees the tournament host is always a participant in the championship.

In 2009, the Pacific Coast Division will play out of the No. 1 position as California Polytechnic State University of the division captured the 2008 National Championship.

The remaining seeds are distributed based on the order of finish from the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship as the qualifiers from the Northwest Division, Sierra Pacific Division, Southwest Division, Mid-Atlantic Division, Southeast Division, New England Division, Big 10 Conference, Pacific Coast Division Runner-Up, Northwest Division Runner-Up, Midwest Division, New York Division, North Atlantic Division, Heartland Division, Texas Division and Host/Sierra Pacific Division Runner-Up round out the 16-team field in positions No. 2-16.

The complete bracket is available online on the Schedules page of the CWPA website.
