Notre Dame's Betsy O'Neill Named February 9 Midwest Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Notre Dame goaltender Betsy O'Neill made 40 saves in four games, including 16 stops against collegiate competition, to earn the February 9 Midwest Division Player of the Week award and lead the Fighting Irish to the championship at the 2009 Michigan State University Spartan Invitational.

O'Neill, who anchored the Irish defense and triggered the team's counter attack with her passing, made five saves over three quarters versus Ohio State University (9-2 W) in the opening round, 13 saves against Midwest Zone (8-4 W), 11 saves versus Michigan Masters (7-6 W) and 11 saves in the title game against the University of Michigan (4-3 W).
