Cal Poly Maintains No. 1 Ranking in February 18 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- For California Polytechnic State University the run continues as the 2008 National Champion Mustangs maintained their unanimous No. 1 selection as the top women's collegiate club team in the country with 100 points in the February 18 National Collegiate Club Poll released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association league office.

Ranked No. 1 since the final poll of the 2008 season, the Mustangs are followed by the University of Oregon, University of California-Los Angeles, University of California-Davis and University of Notre Dame in the "Top Five", while University of Florida and University of Michigan are tied for sixth with Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University and University of Illinois rounding out the "Top 10".

The presence of Michigan, Michigan State and Illinois in the "Top 10" is significant as it marks the first time in the recorded history of the women's collegiate club poll that three teams from the Big 10 Conference are ranked among the 10 best teams in the nation.

University of Pennsylvania held down its spot at No. 11 for another week, while the University of Utah went from unranked to 12th this week after knocking off former No. 9 University of Arizona last week in Southwest Division action.

Miami University (Ohio) and University of California-San Diego remain at No. 13 and 14, respectively, for another week, Arizona slips back to No. 15, while Boston College and California State University-Chico held firm at No. 16 and 17 this week.

Boston University, which was unranked last week, slipped into the "Top 20" at No. 18, Purdue University slipped to No. 19 and Texas A&M University moved into the legion of the ranked programs at No. 20 to round out this week's "Top 20".
