Michigan's Julie Hyrne Named April 20 Western Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Two-meter Julie Hyrne (Sr., Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) of the University of Michigan netted six goals and two assists over the weekend to lead the No. 12-ranked Wolverines to wins over Penn State University-Erie, The Behrend College (14-2 W), Gannon University (17-4 W) and Indiana University (9-8 W) for the Western Division Championship and earn the April 20 Western Division Player of the Week award.
A 2008 American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWPCA) All-America third team selection, the award marks Hyrne's fourth nod this year as she was previously honored on February 16 and March 2 individually, and last week with teammate Keller Felt (So., La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) as co-Players of the Week.
Hyrne will look to pick up her second Western Division Player of the Year and Eastern Championship Most Valuable Player, after garnering both last year, as Michigan will seek to defend its 2008 Eastern Championship at the 2009 CWPA Eastern Championship Fri.-Sun. (April 24-26) in Cambridge, Mass. The Wolverines will be seeking their first back-to-back Eastern titles and the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship that comes with it.
Seeding for the conference championship will be announced on Monday (April 20) at approximately 1 p.m. on the CWPA website.
