Hartwick's Shannon Leonard Named April 20 Northern Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Hartwick College's Shannon Leonard (Fr., Montreal, Quebec/John Rennie) had a hand in 10 of the Hawks' goals over the weekend and added six steals to earn the April 20 Northern Division Rookie of the Week award as Hartwick captured the program's ninth consecutive Northern Division title. The honor marks the third time Leonard has been recognized by the league this year.
She registered a goal and pairs of assists, steals and kick-outs drawn in a 12-8 win over Harvard University, before adding a goal and six assists with three steals in an 11-7 victory over Brown University in the Northern Division title game.
In addition, she helped the Hawks capture wins over Utica College (15-3 W) and Connecticut College (11-4 W) as Hartwick finishes the season 9-1 in division play.
Leonard, who previously was honored as Rookie of the Week on March 23 and April 6, and the rest of the Hawks will continue the season at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Championship tournament at Harvard University this weekend. The victor of the eight-team tournament field will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship at the University of Maryland.
