Notre Dame's Kelly Horner Named April 20 Midwest Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Notre Dame's Kelly Horner (Sr., Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) scored nine goals to earn the April 20 Midwest Division Player of the Week award and lead the Fighting Irish over Washington University (15-2 W), Ohio University (15-3 W) and Grand Valley State University (13-6 W) to capture the 2009 Midwest Division Championship.
A 2008 All-America third team selection, she scored single goals in the wins over Washington and Ohio before rattling the cage with seven of the Irish's 13-goals in the Midwest Division title game against Grand Valley State.
She sealed the victory and division title for Notre Dame in the third period tallying four goals as the Irish outscored the Lakers 7-1 to pull away for good.
In addition, she drew two ejections and a five-meter penalty, all of which were converted by Notre Dame, in the title game.
The award marks Horner's second Player of the Week award this season as she was previously honored on March 16.
Horner and the Irish will continue the season at the National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of California-Davis on May 1-3.
